THE SIMPLE RULES OF BOULES (PETANQUE)

A TEAM consists of one two or three players, playing with two or three boules each. (If one v one both would play three boules. If three v three all would play 2 each) (If two players v three, then the two would use 3 boules each, and the three 2 each) TO PLAY Toss a coin to decide who will start, the winner scribes a circle, stands in it and throws the cochonnet (Jack). This must land between 6 & 10 metres away, then they throw a boule to land as close as possible to the coch (KOSH Slang). The opposing team attempts to throw a boule closer. Once a lead is established, the opposing side must throw until they regain the lead. This continues until all boules have been thrown. TO SCORE one point is scored for each boule closer to the coch than the opposition’s closest boule. The winner draws a circle and starts a new end. Any boule that hits the boundary is out of play, and if the coch should, it is a dead end. The game continues until thirteen points are scored. A match consists of three games.
